Mini-metropolis 2006-07-15

Update: As you may know, a few weeks ago I ran into some difficulties with this photo blog, where I lost the entire database. Well today, finally after three weeks of head aches, it seems to be all resolved. Everything is now where it's supposed to be. :)

Another shot from the archives; this was taken about 1.5 years ago in NYC from the top of the Empire state building. The post processing is meant to emulate a tilt and shift lens. The idea is to make the image look minature, as if the subject is a mini city toy set. This optical tease is achieved by shooting down on the subject from a certain angle/focal range, and blurring the image so as to replicate a macro lens bokeh. I think it's incredible! Thanks to Ameen for introducing me to the idea and The Bitter Girls's gallery.

  • What a great way to minimize the centre of the world! (NYC). I love this shot for many reasons.

  • Great effect! It looks like a scale model of the city

  • Very well done, at first glance i thought you used a real tilt shift lens.
