One thing that is very apparent when you drive through the rural communities in Africa, is that women are doing ALL the work! The men are usually lounging around absorbing the sun, while the women harvest the fields, cultivate the lands, take care of the children, and execute many micro-finance transactions. They are literally the engines of development and reconstruction in many of these conflict-torn communities. The above scene is very common--where women conduct many of the day-to-day activities, all the while carrying their toddlers on their back.
