Meeting 2008-12-26

Captured in Old Town part of Yazd, Iran. It is quite common to see neighbors simply sitting in front of their house in the streets to chit chat, sometimes for the majority of the day. Since these mud houses often accommodate densely crowded families, the streets are considered a place of peace and solitude.

That dome in the back is Alexander the Great's Prison (323BC). Inside, it consists of a deep, circular, brick-lined pit almost 30m in diameter resembling an ancient dungeon. Some say it was built to hold his captives during his conquest of Persia and alleged by others to have been built by the Persians to hold the captive Alex himself.
